A setback has struck one of Chelsea’s stars, possibly depriving him of bidding farewell to his team’s fans before the end of the current season, following a fresh injury, as reported by a journalist.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea’s veteran Brazilian defender Thiago Silva sustained a thigh injury during his participation against Aston Villa (2-2) yesterday in the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s Argentine coach, commented on Silva’s injury, stating, “We need to assess his condition tomorrow… He is experiencing discomfort in the thigh, similar to what he suffered against Crystal Palace.”
With only five matches remaining for the London team this season, Silva’s encounter against Villa might mark his final appearance in the Blues’ jersey if the injury sidelines him for several weeks.
Recent reports had hinted at the 39-year-old’s departure from Stamford Bridge following the conclusion of the current season.
It’s worth mentioning that Silva joined the London club in the summer of 2020, arriving from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
